SAN ANTONIO
There are two main programs being run in San Antonio, a community solar program led by the City of San Antonio, and a multi-family solar program led by Opportunity Home San Antonio.
City of San Antonio
The City of San Antonio’s program will build upon the experience gained from CPS Energy’s previous work in providing low-income San Antonians access to the benefits of solar energy from their Community Solar and Solar Host Programs.
The programs will have the following elements:
-
Construction of residential-serving community solar and on-site multi-family solar.
-
Opportunities for low-income qualified residents to subscribe to a community solar program.
-
Potential incorporation of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).
-
Workforce and job training programs with a focus on residents in San Antonio’s most energy burdened neighborhoods.
-
Community engagement in program design to ensure the maximum and lasting financial benefit of the program is realized by program participants. The City of San Antonio will work to convene a San Antonio Solar for All Advisory Committee that will assist in creating program goals and parameters.

Opportunity Home San Antonio
Opportunity Home’s comprehensive program demonstrates its dedication to providing sustainable, cost-effective, and resilient housing solutions for our community aiming to significantly reduce energy costs for residents while enhancing sustainability efforts throughout all Opportunity Home properties.
The program includes the following key elements:
-
On-site and Community Solar Options: Implementing both rooftop solar installations with Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), either through CPS Energy's "rent your roof" program or directly installed on our properties. Residents will also have the option to participate in CPS Energy's community solar aggregation program.
-
Targeted Electric Bill Savings: Annual electric bill reduction of 20% per household, projecting a substantial $35.6 million in total electric bill savings over 20 years.
-
Battery Storage for Resilience: By securing $1 million in funding for energy storage at five multi-family properties, this will provide backup power to common areas during extreme weather events, enhancing resident safety and comfort.
-
Resident Outreach and Education: Our dedicated outreach efforts are supported by existing internal programs ensuring residents are well-informed and engaged. This also includes workforce development opportunities related to solar energy.
-
Affordable Housing Commitment: Opportunity Home is committed to maintaining affordability. Solar installations will not increase housing costs for our residents.
-
Sustainable Design Enhancements: Beyond energy production, we're incorporating pollinator gardens around critical habitat areas as part of our ground-mount system designs, fostering local biodiversity.
-
Asset Management and Risk Mitigation: By implementing a long-term asset management and monitoring program to ensure optimal performance. Additionally, production guarantees are included to limit performance risk for both Opportunity Home and participating residents.
