BROWNSVILLE

The Brownsville Public Utilities Board (BPUB) will work with key stakeholders and the Texas Energy Poverty Research Institute (TEPRI) to start a residential-serving community solar program. This program will include distributed community solar, storage, and planned resilience hubs. This comprehensive solar program will promote energy resilience, reduce energy costs, and support sustainable development in Brownsville. The program will contribute to a cleaner, more resilient future for all residents.

Below is a snapshot of what this program aims to deliver:

  • Community Solar and Storage: BPUB will own, operate, and maintain solar and storage systems to benefit enrolled low-income customers.

  • Bill Savings: Enrolled customers will receive bill credits to save an average of 20% on electric bills.

  • Solar Jobs: BPUB will partner with local and regional organizations to develop local work opportunities and strengthen the regional economy.
